Dear Partners,
Happy Chinese New Year!

We’re grateful that you have been praying and supporting our ministry in China for so many years. Now we are moving our Mission Bible Seminary to Thailand where we can continue to train China m*ssionaries and local Thailand ministry workers. We will be sending them all over South East Asia countries as well as back to China mainland.

The reason that we have decided to move to Thailand for our training program is because the religious environment inside China has changed rapidly in the past decade. Over 7000 crosses are taken down by force by the Chinese government. These crosses not only belonged to the Christian house churches but also the Three Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) churches, and the Catholic Churches of Catholic Patriotic Association (CPA). Many of these churches are forced to shut down. Hundred of pastors and priests are detained and arrested. Our Bible School and our students’ house churches are being monitored by the government; and even our leadership training websites. With this condition, in 2023 our board members have decided to move our M*ssion Bible School (MBS) and our m*ssionaries training program to Thailand.

Last year end, we have rented a campus with seven wood buildings of about 4600 square meters in northern Thailand which can house about 50 students and 10 staff members. In this late summer we will  recruit 15 t0 20 students from Thailand to be our Bible students.

We are hosting 8 China students studying in Thailand. They are preparing themselves to study in Thailand Universities. During their spare time of studying English, we are training them mission and ministry skills. When they return to China after graduation, they can be full time or bi-vocational missionaries to their home country.

In 2023, we have networked with the local Thailand Life Church to set up a Foundation and a Bible School students recruitment program in the city of Chiangmai. Twelve months ago, we have sent Pastor Lee from China to work with Pastor Xia of the Chiangmai Life Church. Pastor Xia is a local Chinese Thai pastor who has immigrated to Thailand from China since childhood. He can speak both Mandarin Chinese and the Thai language fluently. Besides Pastor Lee and his wife, we are recruiting 3 more staff teachers in the Thailand Mission Bible School.

Next year, we will build a vocational training center to train ministry workers to go to Closed Access countries such as the communist and Muslim nations. They will acquire a skill such as hair dressing, water engineering, bakery and coffee making. This vocational center will need a separate group of skill staff and teachers.

In the past two decades, with the help of our board members and the Quality of Life Factory Association, we have led over 40,000 China factory workers and staff to Christ. Also our M*ssion Bible Seminary (MBS) has trained 112 students in the mainland. Some of them went back to work life ministry. Some of them became full time pastors and church planters. Together we have planted 8 churches in China: 5 in Guangdong Province, 2 in Henan Province, 1 in Fujian Province.

Currently we need to raise funds to renovate our campus, train teaching staffs, buy furnitures and teaching equipment. For donations, please see the instructions below this letter.

2020 Year End News

Dear Partners,

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! We’re praying that you all are healthy and doing well during this Christmas season! In remembering the birth of Christ and his grace upon humanity, we believe we can fight through this evil pandemic with faith and fervent prayer. We pray that many will receive Christ and look forward to eternal life. We are just passing through here on this temporary journey on earth.

Chuck’s leadership seminar in Shanghai in the last two months has over 2200 viewers. Queenie’s counseling broadcast in Shanghai also has received over 7,000 viewers in the last two months. We will continue to make more broadcast online so that many more will be benefited. Please continue to pray for our leadership and counseling ministry here in China. Please view the summary of my broadcast in this website: www.dawnofasiapress.com . This is also our online magazine and theology training site.

We are planning to move into a new office next year nearby us. Our Shenzhen office has been cancelled because of traveling distance. We will continue to run our counseling ministry, English ministry and leadership dynamic training here in town. Since the pandemic has not affected our town at all, it is safer to recruit trainees and students within this sub-urban city.

We are experiencing a short term cash flow problem because we cannot deposit some of our Hong Kong donation checks since the lockdown between HK and mainland China. Dear Partners,

We pray that all is well with you and your family. May God continue to bless your team and your ministry!

Since the outbreak of the Corona Virus, our training ministry and travel have been limited within the southern province of Guangdong. However, we have moved 2 of our counselors to our neighborhood and began training them on site. We have also moved one of our clients who need deep depression counseling to an apartment in our neighborhood. Queenie conducts two sessions with the client every week while simultaneously trains our staff counselors at the client’s sessions. Queenie has a counseling license to practice inside China.

Chuck has been coaching the Living Spring church how to do cell groups while their Sunday meetings have been stopped over 8 months now. The pastors at the church have also conducted online church meeting every weekend. Because the Church’s children daycare center has stopped operation for over 7 months, their income has also stopped. We are praying that will continue to provide for them in the coming year.

Last month, we traveled to Shanghai in cooperation with a Christian media company. Chuck has broadcasted his leadership program online and about 200 trainees log in and listened to his seminar. Queenie has also recorded her beginning counseling program and will be broadcasted later.

We are organizing a leadership retreat in Guangzhou before Chinese New Year in 2021. We expected our former Bible School graduates and their spouses and leaders will attend.

In this town, we are organizing a music cell group ministry. Pastor Caleb Lee and his wife Liu Li will join our ministry next year. We are trying to raise a salary budget for their family of five. Pastor Lee has a Master of Divinity degree and his wife Liu Li was our Bible School graduates 10 years ago. Liu Li is also a piano teacher. They are moving into our neighborhood from GZ. Including their salary and housing allowance, insurance, travel etc., we need to raise US$12,000 per year.

Please pray for us as well as America. We need to pray for God’s grace to let this pandemic subside.

Best Regards,

Dear Partners,

As the pandemic slows down a little bit, we are still stuck inside southern China. Hong Kong is still under 14 days community separation lockdown. We probably cannot travel to HK until August or later. Chuck is working on re-editing his book 《Shadow OF Thy Wings 》which is a personal memoir that documents our ministry in the past 20 years inside mainland China.

Twenty years ago, we setup a Christian Factory Association in Hong Kong called Quality Of Life. From then on we had recruited a network of over 33 factories which have medium or large operations in southern China. Every year we ran a series of educational, counseling and music ministry among the migrant workers in these factories, reaping a harvest of 3,500+ of new believers every year. 9 churches are now planted and more than 40,000 new believers are coming to know the Lord over the last two decades.

In addition we have set up a B*ble School in Guangzhou which has trained and graduated over 100 pastors and evangelists for the migrant ministry. Almost all of them are married and started their own ministries in the provinces of Henan, Fujian, Anhui, Guangxi, Guangdong and Qinghai. This is just a brief introduction of our history. The details testimonies will be recorded in our new book.

Still, all the churches are still closed inside China except for some small house groups. Queenie and her counseling staff continue working on the crisis counseling case here. This case will not end until next February as the client involved is undergoing deep depression recovery.

I’ve just finished an English fiction about China human rights violation. It hopefully will be published before the end of this year. My next book is about Leadership Psychology called “Vibration Of Your Mind”. It we may be published next year although I have taught this course to various business groups and business fellowship groups in Beijing, Shenzhen and Dongguan.

As soon as this pandemic is under control, Chuck will travel to Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Xinjiang for leadership & cell group training. We will be making a video recording for this training program to launch out in the internet.

Please continue to pray for Hong Kong as the new National Security law just passed might affect religious freedom in Hong Kong. China has continued to shutdown house churches during this pandemic!

March 1, 2020
Dear Partners,

Hope you are all healthy and active in serving the Lord wherever you are!

We just returned to southern China about 3 weeks ago. We flew into Hong Kong and stayed there for two days. Before they closed the border we entered Shenzhen the day before. The Corona virus may be scary but not for us. When the SARs virus broke out in Guangzhou in 2003, we still conducted our B*ble school and leadership training. Everyday, teachers, volunteers and students about 17 of us were still eating and laughing and praying together, until the plague passed over us.

This time the virus is more aggressive and contagious. The whole country seems like to be in a total lockdown. No restaurants are open except for fast food takeouts like McDonald and KFC. Only the grocery shops and food stores are open. Everyone is wearing a mask. Before we enter our apartment, the guard would check our temperature and identity before we enter the gate. No one, including the couriers, can enter the premise if they don't live there, including close relatives. Luckily my son’s family are living inside the same apartment complex only two buildings away. We can still meet and eat together as a family.

All our trainings are on the internet now. In fact, 4 of our counseling training are on the internet before this outbreak. Now the other two face to face meetings are online too. There is only one exception, since our town does not have a virus case so far, Queenie has moved 3 of our female counseling trainees in an apartment close by us. We are dealing with a special depression case which would last a year. And the clients have moved into our town too. Queenie and pastor Joyce are using this opportunity to train our trainees at the same time.

My Leadership Dynamic training will be postponed to this summer if the virus is contained then. Otherwise, we will have to do them online also. I plan to travel to Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing for the training sessions.

Please pray for our safety. Also pray for China as revival of the churches is happening in Hong Kong and the mainland. God is using this pandemic to teach China a lesson. The church will be purified also.

Best Regards,

Dear Partners in Prayers,

As the Hong Kong riot escalates and clashes with police continue, we need your fervent prayer. Please pray for peace and protection of Hong Kong. Schools and Universities have closed their classes this week. The railroad and metro systems are under attack and many stations are closed this week. My granddaughter cannot go to Hong Kong to attend her kindergarten in the New Territories there for almost a week now.

As for inside mainland China, the religious environment has become more and more restricted and sensitive. Many house churches are forced to close down and hundreds of pastors and leaders are detained and imprisoned. Some of them had disappeared after they were arrested. Even the TSPM churches (who are registered with the government) do not allow young people 18 and under to enter their fellowships. Now, many TSPM churches do not have Sunday schools in their program.

With this new environment, we are urgently training our former Bible school graduates’ churches to reorganize into small house groups instead of meeting in larger congregations on Sundays. They will continue to meet at various homes during the week. But hundreds more cell group leaders are needed and we are publishing our new 《Cell Leaders Training Manual》and our《8 Characters Leadership Dynamic》 curriculum to help them. Some of these churches are in our neighborhood cities where we can consult them closely. Some of them we have to travel long distance to the northern and eastern provinces to train them.

One of our students’ church, Living Spring, has recently been asked to stop their Sunday meetings by the local Religious Affair Bureau. They even forced the landlord of the meeting place to kick the church out without renewal of the lease contract. Now they have to regroup their meetings into 5 different home groups in various districts. Now, me and my wife are also requested to become the consultants of the church. My wife Queenie will be responsible for the prayer and family counseling ministry. I will be responsible to train their leaders about cell church management and church administration.

We need to raise USD 32,000 (=HK $ 249,600) for our Cell Church Leadership training program and counselors training in 2020. Some of us need to travel to various provinces in the north to train more home group leaders. Please pray for our safety.

Dear Partners in Prayer,

As recently in the last two months, Hong Kong has been going through a democracy protest against the government extradition law to be passed so that China can extradite Hong Kong crime suspects into China without a fair trial system like Hong Kong. China’s human rights have been violated so often that many human right activists and lawyers are being unfairly arrested or harassed.

More than 2 million people have marched on the streets of Hong Kong but facing violent opposition from the police. Hundreds of tear gas and rubber bullets are fired towards the protesters. Hundreds of them are violently beaten up and arrested. So pray for peace in Hong Kong and restoration of order soon without further violence on both sides!

There are over 300,000 Canadian passport holders in Hong Kong; and nearly 700,000 foreign passport holders of other countries. I will expect a mass exodus of people immigrating back to those countries in the coming years. Also those young people may reconsider oversea education soon. There are over 80,000 Hong Kong citizens already immigrated to Taiwan. 50 of them have escaped to Taiwan for political asylum recently. Two of them have run to Germany already. We feel safer as we are living in north of Shenzhen city now.

We are currently consultants of one of our students’ house church. The pastor’s family of that church will move to Pakistan to join a children ministry program there in the fall of this year. A lady pastor Joyce is being installed to replace them. Queenie will help her in the pastoral and prayer ministry. I will be responsible for training their church leaders and cell group pastors. This house group has a membership of about 100 migrants.

Our former employee Esther Ye will join our ministry starting in this September. She will be responsible family ministry and administration. Please pray we will raise enough financial support for her.

Dear Partners,

Please continue to pray for the situation in China’s churches. Recently, the Chinese authority has asked one of our network churches to stop the meetings for one month until the security alert is over. This church has good relationship with the local authorities and they thought they are given some favor already by not shutting them down altogether.

Last week I went to Hainan Island for a weekend leadership training and meeting with 4 other companies in regards to running their  transformational businesses. Now we have strategic partners in Hainan, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

We are in process of recruiting a China news and leadership researcher as we are trying to raise some funding for our Leadership Dynamic Project. Please remember us as you are thinking of making donations to ministry in China. Last fiscal year we have incurred an annual deficit of over US$10,000. Because of the financial slowdown in China, many of our business partners and donors have sold or closed down their businesses.

Christians United For China (CUFC)

The crackdown of Christian churches inside China continues. Last month, just before the Chinese New Year, 150 leaders of the China Gospel Fellowship network were arrested in Henan while they are attending their leadership meeting. During the raid, one of the pastors had a heart attack. This is one of the largest house church network in China, many of their leaders were under close surveillance by the government.

Accusing China of violating human rights, a top American lawmaker said fighting for religious liberty should be a top priority in negotiating US and China relationship.

The US doesn’t have the singular authority to stop the religious persecution in China, but it can apply significant pressure to Chinese leaders by linking the need for religious freedom to the economic and political aspects of the bilateral relationship that are important to China, Senator Chuck Grassley said in Politico Magazine.

“As China’s largest trading partner, the US is in a powerful position to influence Chinese leaders and stand up for human rights. Fighting for religious liberty should be a central part of the US’ relationship with China,” he asserted in his op-ed, which comes amidst reports of renewed efforts of religious prosecution of Christians and other religions in the country.

Disturbing reports have surfaced out of China of late detailing the imprisonment of Christian pastors, Bible burning and demolishing of Christian and Catholic churches. Grassley is chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee.

Recently, he introduced a Senate resolution on China’s religious prosecution. The Chinese government has removed crosses from over 7000 Christian churches as of 2018, and has instructed police officers to stop citizens from entering their places of worship, he said. “There have been violent confrontations between government authorities and worshipers, and communist leaders have implemented restrictions prohibiting children 18 years old and younger from participating in religiously-focused education,” Grassley said.

As a community in Christ, we need to pray earnestly for the Chinese churches and their leaders. Please join our Facebook international prayer network: Christians United For China (CUFC) to obtain the most updated information about the churches in China. Let’s pray for them internationally 24/7. (Please click the upper right hand Facebook CUFC button to join our Facebook page and find the linkage to Christians United For China. Remember you have to log into your Facebook Account first.)
